No Signal After the Storm? DStv Help in Alberton

OnspotElec helps Alberton households get DStv back after storms, traces E48-32 faults and installs new systems in family homes and Meyersdal estates.

A summer thunderstorm rolls over Brackenhurst or Randhart, the TV goes blank and the screen shows E48-32. Sometimes the picture comes back on its own within minutes; sometimes it does not. OnspotElec helps with exactly that situation, as well as DStv installation in Alberton for family homes and estate properties. As an authorised DStv installer that works across Gauteng from the road, we take calls 24 hours a day and offer emergency assistance.

What the E48-32 Message Is Telling You

When E48-32 appears, the decoder has lost the satellite signal, or what is reaching it is too weak to use. It is a symptom rather than a diagnosis. During heavy rain it is often just rain fade: very dense cloud and rain weaken the Ku-band signal for a while. Once the storm has passed, a signal that does not return points to something physical.

Possible causes after a storm include a dish pushed off target by wind or hail, water getting into a connector, a damaged LNB, or a lightning-related fault in a switch or decoder. A tree branch that has bent into the signal path can also do it. Our E48-32 error explainer covers each of these in more depth.

Five Safe Checks Before You Phone

These take a few minutes and can save a call-out. None of them involve climbing a ladder or opening equipment.

  1. Wait until the heaviest rain has passed. If the signal comes back on its own, it was most likely rain fade.
  2. Check whether every TV in the house shows the error, or only one. One affected decoder points to that decoder or its cable.
  3. Look at the back of the decoder and make sure the satellite cable is pushed in firmly at the LNB input.
  4. Switch the decoder off at the wall plug, wait a moment and switch it back on.
  5. From the ground, look at the dish. Is it tilted, dented or hanging differently from before?

If none of that helps, the next steps are installer work. Please do not climb onto the roof, particularly when it is wet.

Checked everything and still no picture? Call 083 489 1322. We are open 24 hours, and emergency assistance is available depending on location and technician availability.

When a Technician Needs to Come Out

A technician tests signal at the dish and along the cable to find where it is being lost. The fix might be realigning the dish, re-terminating a waterlogged connector, replacing a damaged LNB or cable, or replacing a faulty switch. Our no-signal and E48-32 assistance page explains the process, and for urgent call-outs see emergency DStv repairs.

Not every message is a signal fault. A scrambled-service notification such as E16-4 is commonly linked to the subscription, and that is something to resolve through DStv's self-service channels; an installer cannot fix account or billing issues.

Family Homes and Meyersdal Estates

Freestanding homes in Brackendowns, New Redruth and Alberante usually have a wall- or roof-mounted dish with a straightforward cable run, which makes repairs relatively simple to access. Double-storey homes and properties with a lot of mature trees may need a more careful choice of dish position to keep a clear line to the north-east sky.

Meyersdal's estates tend to have rules about where a dish may be mounted and how visible it may be. Before a new installation or a relocation, check with the HOA or managing agent, and arrange gate access for the technician. Our estate installation service explains how we work within those rules.

New installations, Explora setups and extra TV points are also available. A storm-proof setup is mostly about the basics: a solid bracket, good alignment with signal to spare, quality compression connectors and weatherproofed joints.

Arranging a Repair or New Installation

Call us or send a quote request with your suburb and a short description of the fault. A realignment is a smaller job than replacing an LNB and cable, so the price follows what the fault turns out to need. We also serve Germiston and Johannesburg nearby.

Alberton No-Signal FAQs

Usually it comes back once the heaviest rain has passed. If it is still off well after the storm has cleared, something else is wrong.

A nearby strike can damage decoders, switches or LNBs. A technician can test which part has failed.

If the other TVs work, the dish is probably fine. The fault is more likely in that decoder, its cable or its connection.

We are open 24 hours and offer emergency assistance. Whether a technician can come straight away depends on availability and the job.

Yes. Let the estate know we are coming and check the dish placement rules beforehand.
