In a busy family home, one TV rarely keeps everyone happy. This page focuses on what family homes in Boksburg usually need: getting signal to a second or third room, linking decoders so each one can show something different, or setting up a new system in an estate or complex where the rules are stricter. OnspotElec is an authorised DStv installer covering all of Gauteng from the road, so we come to you in Sunward Park, Parkrand, Beyers Park, Witfield and the surrounding suburbs.
Multiple TVsThree Ways to Watch DStv in More Than One Room
The right setup depends on whether the extra TV needs to watch its own channel and whether you want to record.
| Setup | How it works | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| One decoder, extra TV point | A second TV is connected to the same decoder and shows the same channel. | A patio or kitchen TV that follows whatever the lounge is watching. |
| XtraView | Two or three decoders in the same household are linked under one subscription. Each can show a different channel. | Main bedroom, kids' room and lounge all watching different things. |
| Separate subscriptions | Each decoder has its own account. | A separate household on the same property, such as a rented cottage. |
On cost, DStv's FAQ explains that XtraView adds an access fee per extra decoder to your usual subscription, except that a PVR in the pair means no further monthly charge for the second decoder, since the PVR's own access fee covers it. Fee amounts change, so check them with DStv. Our XtraView explainer goes through how linking works, and the XtraView installation service covers the setup itself.

Explora, Smart LNB and Why the Dish Matters
Linking decoders is not only a matter of settings. Each decoder needs its own signal feed from the dish, and an Explora needs more than one. DStv recommends its Smart LNB for all Explora installations and most XtraView ones, because it combines the job of a switch into the LNB itself. If your dish still has an older LNB, upgrading it is often part of adding a decoder. Our Explora installation page explains what is included.
Extra TV points also mean extra cable. On a double-storey house that can involve running cable through the roof space and down an internal wall, which is why a multi-room quote depends on the layout of the home.
Estates and Complexes Around Boksburg
If your home is in a security estate or a sectional title complex, check the estate's HOA rules or the complex conduct rules before any dish is fitted or moved, and tenants should ask the landlord. Some complexes have a shared dish feeding each unit through a multiswitch, and DStv notes its Smart LNB is not generally suitable for multi-unit buildings. In those cases a new TV point means working with the existing building system rather than adding a dish. See our estate and complex installation service for how that works.
Problems That Come Up When Adding Rooms
- Second decoder shows an XtraView error. The commonly reported E143-4 notification usually means the secondary decoder is waiting for the primary decoder. Making sure the primary decoder is switched on and connected is the first thing to check.
- New room works, old room loses signal. A splitter added without enough signal, or an LNB that cannot feed the extra decoder, can starve the existing TV.
- Picture fine on one TV only. The fault is usually in the cable or connector to the affected room rather than at the dish, which is a job for our cable and connector repair service.
- Storm drop-outs on every TV. Heavy summer rain can cut signal briefly. If it does not come back once the rain eases, the dish or LNB needs checking.

Booking a Visit
Calls are taken around the clock and emergency faults can be prioritised where possible. To get an accurate quote, have a few details ready: how many TVs you want working, which decoders you already own, whether you want to record, and whether the property is a freestanding house, an estate home or a complex unit. Send these through the quote request page or phone us. What you pay depends on the cabling and equipment involved, and the visit date on technician availability.
OnspotElec also works in Benoni, Germiston and Brakpan.
Boksburg Multi-Room FAQs
Usually, yes, but the dish needs an LNB that can feed both decoders. If yours has an older single-output LNB, it may need upgrading to a Smart LNB.
XtraView is meant for decoders in the same household. If the cottage is rented to someone else, check DStv's terms, as a separate subscription is normally needed.
Yes. Arrange gate access and check the estate rules about dish placement before the visit.
It avoids a second decoder and access fee, but both TVs show the same channel. It suits rooms where that is not a problem.
