On a large home or a commercial building, the way a dish and its cabling are installed matters almost as much as the signal. OnspotElec handles DStv installation in Bedfordview for spacious family homes, estate properties, offices and hospitality venues, with attention to where the dish sits and how the cable reaches each room. OnspotElec is a mobile, authorised DStv installer for the whole of Gauteng; there is no Bedfordview office, the technician simply comes to you.
Planning firstFitting the Installation to the Building
Bigger properties in Senderwood, Essexwold and Oriel often have several living areas, a main suite, a patio or entertainment area and sometimes a study or cottage. Each extra viewing point changes the design. Before any drilling, it is worth deciding:
- Which rooms need their own decoder. Two or three decoders can be linked under one subscription with XtraView, so different people can watch different channels.
- Which screens can share. A patio TV that only ever shows what the lounge is watching may not need a separate decoder at all.
- Whether a PVR is wanted. An Explora Ultra brings recording, built-in Wi-Fi and streaming apps; our Explora installation service includes setting it up properly.
- Where the dish can go. It needs a clear view towards the north-east sky, which on a property with mature trees or a double storey can narrow the options.
Our article on signal distribution for multiple viewing points explains the options in more depth.
Concealed Cabling and a Tidy Finish
Nobody wants a coaxial cable clipped across a freshly painted wall or a dish bolted somewhere it spoils the front of the house. Where the building allows, cable can be run through the roof space, along existing conduit or behind skirting, and the dish placed on a less visible wall that still has line of sight to the satellite.
How hidden the cable can be depends on the construction. Double-volume ceilings, concrete slabs and finished stone or tiled walls limit what is practical, and running new cable through them takes longer. We will tell you on site what is achievable, and the quote reflects the route chosen. Estates often have architectural or HOA rules about dish visibility too, so check those before the installation date. The estate installation page covers that process.

Offices, Boardrooms and Hospitality Venues
Offices, restaurants and guest accommodation have different needs from a home. A boardroom screen, a reception TV or a bar showing sport needs to work every time someone switches it on, and the cabling has to be safe in a public space.
For venues with many screens or guest rooms, DStv's Smart LNB is generally not the right fit, and a multiswitch distribution system is usually designed instead. Our commercial DStv installation service covers offices, guesthouses and hospitality premises. The subscription itself is something you arrange directly with DStv.
Planning a new boardroom, lounge or entertainment area? Phone 083 489 1322 while the room is still being finished, as cable is much easier to hide before the final paint and fittings go in.
Faults That Tend to Show Up on Larger Properties
Long cable runs lose more signal than short ones, so an installation that reaches the far end of a big house has less margin to spare. That can show up as picture break-up on the furthest TV while the closest one is fine. Signal can also be lost when roofers, painters or gardeners disturb the dish, or when a tree on the north-east side grows into its path.
In summer storms, heavy rain can interrupt the signal briefly on any system. A well-aligned dish with sound connectors usually rides out more of it. If the picture does not return after the rain eases, it is worth having the alignment and signal levels checked.
Requesting a Bedfordview Quote
OnspotElec is open 24 hours a day with emergency assistance available. Call us or use the quote request page with a short description of the property, the number of TVs and what you want them to do. Because installations on these properties vary so much in size, each quote is worked out from the actual job, and the visit is booked around technician availability.
We also travel to nearby Edenvale, Germiston and Johannesburg.
Bedfordview Installation FAQs
Often most of it can, using the roof space, existing conduit or skirting. Some short exposed sections may be unavoidable, for example where the cable leaves the dish. We will explain the options before starting.
Most estates have rules about where dishes may be mounted and how visible they can be. Ask the HOA or managing agent before booking so the position can be agreed.
XtraView links two or three decoders in the same household under one subscription. DStv charges an access fee per extra decoder, so check the current fee with DStv.
Yes. We install for offices, guesthouses and hospitality venues. Business viewing is set up on your DStv account directly, while we take care of the dish, cabling and decoders.
That often points to signal loss on a long or damaged cable run, or a weak connection along the way. A technician can test the run and fix or replace the weak section.
