Commercial DStv installation is about more than getting a picture on a screen. A restaurant needs the match on every TV at kick-off, a guesthouse needs each room working when guests check in, and an office reception needs cabling that looks professional. OnspotElec is an authorised DStv installer for businesses throughout Gauteng, and we plan installations around how your premises actually work.
What Different Businesses Usually Need
No two commercial jobs are alike, but most fall into a few patterns.
Offices, reception areas and boardrooms
Reception screens usually run one news or business channel all day, so a single decoder feeding one or two screens is often enough. Boardrooms may need DStv only occasionally, alongside other presentation equipment. The priority here is tidy, concealed cabling and a decoder placed where staff can reach it without it being on show.
Restaurants, bars and sports venues
Venues often want the same match on every screen, with the option to show a second game on part of the wall. The number of decoders follows the number of different channels you want playing at once, not the number of TVs. Cable runs are longer, distribution matters more and the installation has to cope with a busy space.
Guesthouses, B&Bs and small hotels
Guest rooms raise a different question: does every room need its own channel choice? If guests should choose what they watch, each room needs its own decoder and feed. If a shared channel selection is acceptable, distribution from fewer decoders is possible. We explain the trade-offs so you can decide. Our article on DStv for guesthouses and small businesses goes into this further.

How a Commercial Installation Is Planned
Count channels, not just screens
We map every screen and agree which ones show the same channel and which need their own. That sets the number of decoders and the distribution design.
Check the dish position
Commercial roofs, signage and neighbouring buildings can block the view to the north-east. We find a position with clear line of sight and safe access for future maintenance.
Design the distribution
DStv says its Smart LNB is not generally suitable for commercial or retail environments, so larger businesses usually need multi-output LNBs, multiswitches and, on long runs, amplification.
Schedule around trading hours
Because OnspotElec is open 24 hours, we can discuss early-morning, after-close or quieter-day visits so noisy work and ladders stay out of your customers' way.
Install, label and test
Cable is routed neatly, connections are labelled where it helps future fault-finding, and every screen is tested before we hand over.
Pricing depends on the number of screens, decoders, cable distance and equipment involved, so every commercial job is quoted after we understand the site. Request a quote or call 083 489 1322 to talk through your premises.
The Commercial Subscription Is Arranged With DStv
Businesses that show DStv to customers or guests must arrange an appropriate commercial subscription directly with DStv. A residential subscription is not the right arrangement for a restaurant, bar, guesthouse or hotel.
We don't sell subscriptions or handle accounts, and we won't advise you on which product to take. Speak to DStv through DStv's self-service channels about the right commercial arrangement for your type of business. Our role is the physical installation: the dish, LNB, distribution, cabling and decoders, set up and tested.
It is worth sorting the subscription side early. Knowing how many decoders your commercial arrangement covers helps us design the right distribution from the start, rather than reworking it later.
Keeping a Business System Running
A business can't always wait for a quiet week to fix the TV. A few habits reduce the chance of being caught out:
- Know where your equipment is. Keep a note of where the decoders, multiswitch and power points are, so staff can do basic checks such as restarting a decoder at the wall.
- Watch the storm season. Heavy summer thunderstorms in Gauteng can cause brief signal loss. If signal doesn't return once the heaviest rain has passed, something else is wrong.
- Get damage looked at quickly. Roof work, signage changes and building maintenance often knock dishes or damage cables. Ask contractors to keep clear of the dish and cabling.
- Plan before match days. If something has been unreliable, have it checked before a big fixture rather than on the day.
If a fault does strike at a bad moment, see our emergency DStv assistance. We work with businesses across Gauteng, including Johannesburg, Bedfordview and Pretoria.
Commercial DStv Questions
Yes, if all the screens show the same channel. Each channel you want playing at the same time needs its own decoder.
We are open 24 hours, so we can discuss a time that suits your trading hours. Exact scheduling depends on location, the work required and technician availability.
No. Businesses arrange their commercial subscription directly with DStv. We handle the installation.
Usually, with permission. Get written approval from the landlord or building manager first, and check any centre or complex rules on where dishes may be mounted.
Only if each room has its own decoder with its own feed from the dish. Rooms sharing a decoder all see the same channel, which needs less equipment but gives guests no choice.
Our work covers the DStv side: dish, distribution, cabling and decoders. Mounting TVs on walls is outside our scope, so plan for that separately.
