Gauteng's summer storms are part of life in Centurion, and so is the question that follows them: is the DStv out because of the rain, or has something actually broken? OnspotElec offers DStv installation in Centurion along with repairs and realignments for estates, complexes and family homes. We are an authorised DStv installer working as a mobile service, travelling to you across this part of the City of Tshwane.
Storm seasonRain Fade or a Real Fault? How to Tell
DStv uses Ku-band satellite signals, and those weaken in very heavy rain. From roughly October to March, thunderstorms can cause short outages even on a well-installed system. What matters is what happens afterwards.
| What you notice | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Signal drops during a heavy downpour and comes back once it eases | Rain fade, which is normal | Wait it out. No repair is needed unless it also happens in light rain. |
| Picture breaks up in light rain or heavy cloud | Low signal margin, often slight misalignment or an ageing LNB | Book a signal test and realignment. |
| No signal hours after the storm has passed | Water in a connector, damaged cable, a dish moved by wind or a failed LNB | Do the basic checks below, then call. |
| No signal after hail or strong wind | Dish knocked out of position or physically damaged | Look from the ground for damage and ask for assistance. |

The E48-32 message simply means the decoder is not receiving a usable signal. It is a symptom rather than a diagnosis, and our article on DStv signal problems in heavy rain explains the weather side in more detail.
Once the rain has stopped, give it a little time. Then check whether every TV is affected, push the cable firmly into the decoder's satellite input and restart the decoder at the wall plug. If nothing changes, call 083 489 1322. Please stay off a wet roof.
DStv Services for Centurion Homes and Estates
When the cause turns out to be physical, the fix is usually one of these:
- Realignment. A dish alignment and signal check restores the margin that helps a system ride out more of the season's storms.
- Connector and cable work. Water in a connector is a common fault after a storm. Cable and connector repairs include proper weatherproofing of the joins.
- LNB or dish replacement. An LNB that has failed, or a dish dented by hail, needs replacing rather than adjusting.
- Out-of-hours help. If the signal goes at night or over a weekend, emergency DStv assistance is available.
We also handle new installations, Explora Ultra setups and XtraView in estate homes and complexes in Irene, Highveld and elsewhere, once the estate's rules on dish placement have been checked with the HOA.
Established Suburbs and Older Setups
Lyttelton
Lyttelton is one of Centurion's established suburbs, and many homes there have dishes and cables that went up a long time ago. Older installations tend to struggle more in storms simply because the parts have aged: dish surfaces corrode, LNB housings crack and cable sheathing perishes in the sun.
If an older system keeps dropping out in weather a newer one would handle, replacing the worn parts usually makes more sense than repeated realignments. That might mean a new LNB and connectors, fresh cable, or a complete dish replacement if the dish itself is corroded or bent. The technician will explain what they find and what is worth replacing, so you can decide.
Eldoraigne, Wierdapark and Rooihuiskraal have their own mix of older family homes and newer complexes, and the same checks apply to the older installations there.
Booking DStv Work in Centurion
OnspotElec is open 24 hours, every day of the week. For a new installation, a call or a quote request with your decoder type, the number of TVs and the property type is a good start. Pricing is based on the equipment and work required, so the quote follows once the job is clear. Timing depends on location, the fault, technician availability and the work involved.

Centurion DStv FAQs
Some loss during the heaviest rain is normal with satellite TV. If it happens in light rain, or the signal does not come back once the storm passes, the system may be misaligned, an LNB may be ageing or water may have got into a connector.
Yes, along with Lyttelton, Highveld, Wierdapark, Rooihuiskraal and the rest of Centurion. We travel to you; OnspotElec has no office in Centurion.
Yes. Check the estate's rules and get HOA approval for the dish position first, and arrange contractor access with security before the visit.
Not always. A dish with minor marks may realign fine, but a dented or bent dish, or a cracked LNB, usually needs replacing. The technician can tell once they have inspected it.
