Krugersdorp DStv Installation for Big Properties

OnspotElec installs and repairs DStv on Krugersdorp's larger stands, including long cable runs, exposed dishes and second TV points in flatlets, cottages and outbuildings.

A bigger stand changes how DStv is installed. The dish might be on the main house, a garage or a pole, the TVs might be spread across a main house, a flatlet and an entertainment area, and the distance between them can be considerable. OnspotElec handles DStv installation in Krugersdorp and across Mogale City as a mobile authorised DStv installer. We travel out to Noordheuwel, Monument, Kenmare, Rant-en-Dal and the other West Rand suburbs; we have no branch there, but we cover the whole of Gauteng.

Long Cable Runs From Dish to House

Satellite signal weakens a little over every metre of coaxial cable, and every join and splitter adds more loss. On a compact suburban plot that rarely matters. When the dish sits on an outbuilding at the back of a large property, or the cable has to reach a cottage across the garden, the margin shrinks and the furthest TV is often the first to break up.

  • Use good-quality cable. RG6 coaxial cable with proper compression F-connectors loses less signal and keeps water out better than cheaper alternatives.
  • Avoid unnecessary joins. One continuous run is better than several lengths joined along the way.
  • Protect underground or outdoor sections. Cable crossing a garden is best run in suitable conduit, away from spades, lawnmowers and paving work.
  • Think about the dish position. Sometimes moving the dish closer to the TVs, while keeping a clear view to the north-east sky, shortens the run and solves the problem.

If an existing long run is causing trouble, our cable repair service can test it and replace damaged sections. For new homes on large plots, the guide to DStv installation in newly built properties covers what to plan before the walls are closed up.

DStv in a Flatlet, Cottage or Lapa

Second TV points in outbuildings are among the most common requests on bigger properties. There are a few ways to approach them, and the right one depends on who is watching.

If the outbuilding is part of your own household, such as a teenager's flatlet or an entertainment lapa, a second decoder can be linked to the main one through XtraView so each TV can show something different. Each linked decoder beyond the first carries a DStv access fee added to the subscription. If the lapa TV only needs to show what the lounge is watching, a second TV point off the same decoder may be enough.

If the cottage is rented to a separate household, XtraView is generally not the right fit, as it is intended for decoders in the same household; the tenant would normally have their own subscription. Read signal distribution for properties with multiple viewing points for a fuller comparison.

Planning a cable trench to a cottage or lapa? Call 083 489 1322 before the paving or landscaping goes in, so conduit can be laid at the right time.

Dishes in Open, Windy Spots

On larger, more open properties, a dish can be exposed to wind from several directions with little shelter. Over time strong gusts can shift a dish slightly, and even a small movement can be enough to lose signal. A solid bracket or a properly braced pole, tight fixings and cable secured along its length help it stay on target. If yours has shifted, our alignment and signal testing service realigns it, and if the current spot is simply too exposed or blocked, relocating the dish may be worth considering.

Storms bring their own short outages. Heavy rain interrupts satellite signal briefly on any system; a dish with good alignment and signal to spare tends to recover sooner.

Krugersdorp DStv FAQs

It depends on the cable quality, the number of joins and the equipment in between. Long runs are possible but need careful planning; the technician tests signal at the far end before finishing.

Yes, in suitable conduit. Let us know if the route crosses paving or a driveway, as that affects the work involved.

The mounting is usually the issue. Re-securing or replacing the bracket and realigning the dish often fixes it; sometimes a more sheltered position is better.
