Pretoria North is largely freestanding family homes, many with a DStv dish that has been on the roof for a long time. That makes two kinds of work especially relevant: replacing worn dishes and LNBs, and adding a second TV point for an outside room, a flatlet or a bedroom. OnspotElec handles both, along with new DStv installation in Pretoria North, as an authorised DStv installer serving Montana, Sinoville, Annlin, Wonderboom, Dorandia, Magalieskruin, Doornpoort and nearby suburbs.
Signs an Old Dish or LNB Needs Replacing
Dishes and LNBs sit out in sun, rain and hail every day, and they do wear out. Look out for these signs:
- Signal drops in light rain. A healthy system rides out ordinary rain. Losing the picture in a drizzle often points to an ageing LNB or poor alignment.
- Visible damage. Rust on the dish or bracket, a cracked LNB cover, or a dish dented by hail.
- On-off signal that realignment does not fix. If the dish has been realigned and the problem comes back, the LNB or the connectors may be the real cause.
- An upgrade is planned. Moving to an Explora Ultra or adding XtraView often calls for a newer LNB, such as DStv's Smart LNB, even if the old one still works.
Our dish and LNB replacement service covers swapping the LNB, fitting a new dish, or both. The article on when to replace a DStv dish or LNB goes into the warning signs in more detail.

Adding a TV Point in an Outside Room or Flatlet
Plenty of family homes have a granny flat, an outside room or an entertainment area that was added after the original DStv installation. Getting signal there is mostly about the cable route and how the decoders are set up.
- Same channel on another TV. If the outside room only needs to show what the main decoder is showing, the main decoder can feed a second screen. Both TVs then show the same channel.
- Its own choice of channel. If the room needs to watch independently, a second decoder linked through XtraView is the usual answer, with DStv's access fee for the extra decoder.
- A separate household. If a tenant lives in the flatlet, XtraView may not apply, because it is meant for decoders in the same household. The tenant may need their own decoder and subscription, fed from the dish.
Cable to an outside room has to cross open ground or run along walls, so it should be protected from sun and damage. That part of the job falls under coaxial cabling work, done in a way that will not perish in a few seasons.
Montana and Nearby Suburbs
Montana
Montana has a mix of freestanding homes and newer townhouse complexes. In the complexes, check the body corporate or HOA rules on dish positions first, and find out whether there is a shared system. On freestanding properties the questions are the familiar ones: how old the equipment is, whether the line of sight is still clear and how many rooms need DStv.
Sinoville, Annlin and Magalieskruin share many of the same features, with established homes, mature gardens and older dishes. Trees that have grown since the dish was installed can block the north-east view, and a dish relocation may be the practical fix where trimming is not possible.
Picture breaking up whenever it rains, even lightly? That often means the system has lost its signal margin. Call 083 489 1322 to arrange a check.

Pretoria North Questions
Yes, along with Montana, Sinoville, Annlin and Magalieskruin. OnspotElec is a mobile service, so we come to you rather than working from a branch in Pretoria North.
If the outside room only needs the same channel as the main TV, yes. For independent viewing you would need a second decoder, usually linked with XtraView, which carries an access fee from DStv.
If the dish is solid and free of rust or dents, a new LNB and connectors are often enough. A corroded, bent or cracked dish is better replaced. The technician will check both and explain the choice.
